identifying your Native Pony Saddle

Identifying your Native pony Saddle is not as hard as it might firm appear.

The Original Native Pony Saddle Company Saddles have changed over the years and all three of our teams of saddle makers have made the saddles at one time or another. As the saddles are hand made they put their personality into the saddles, this makes it easy to identify a saddle and it’s age based on who made it.  All  Native Pony Saddle Company Saddles are stamped with the logo on the flap, have the characteristic green nail head and a white name plate under the flap over the stirrup bar.

The first Native Pony Saddles were made around 2000 by the same saddle maker who now makes our Pony Saddle Company saddles, they had brass nail heads and these saddles were made for Hayley Hyde- Andrews, the person who owned the brand before Saddle Exchange .

These saddles are different in design, are not adjustable and often had thin gel panels.

Once we owned the name we continued to use the same maker to make the Native Pony Saddle Company branded saddles until 2009,  saddles made by this, the original maker of the saddles have the identification number printed into the leather, vertically down the rear of the sweat flap on the left hand side. This number is made up of numbers and usually one letter. A saddle like this will have been made between 2000 and 2009.

A Native Pony Saddle Company Mountain & Moorland Saddle made post 2007.

Original Native Pony Saddles have also been made by our 2 other saddle making teams, the numbers on these newer saddles date from 2007 and they stamp the identification number either in the middle of the sweat flap or usually on the left hand side high up in the back corner of the sweat flap, depending on which person made them. The numbers have no letters and 4 digits.

If you compare the  two pictures you can see that this is basically the same saddle design, just made by different people so slightly different in appearance and feel.

All these saddles were adjustable when first sold and we hold records when the work was done by ourselves.  Older saddles whichdate back to pre 2009 will only be adjusted at the discretion of Dean Woodward based on his assessment of the condition of the tree at the time of adjustment.

All saddles sold either by Saddle Exchange Ltd or Saddle Exchange Saddling Solutions were registered on our database when originally sold so feel free to contact us if you would like specific information on your saddle, please note we will need the identification number or the name and address of the person who originally purchased it from us in order to look it up.

Since late 2010 Native Pony Saddle Company branded saddles have been available from two sources, ourselves and  Native Pony and Cob Saddles Ltd. These saddles although bearing the trademarked Native Pony logo now have a Black Nailhead and vary in design and appearance from the originals.

Made by a different saddle maker, they are completely unrelated to us in any way , please therefore contact Native Pony & Cob Saddles Ltd directly for information on these saddles.
